The Vikings QB situation is all over the map. Mostly apparent by the playoff loss in which Joe Webb was incapable or running our offense after the first drive. Now, while I have nothing against Webb, I feel that his poor play mixed with Offensive Coordinator Bill Musgrave‘s play calling should get the two of them canned. But I’ll come back to those two, and do my analysis in depth chart order.
1. Christian Ponder. He played brilliantly (at times). He played horribly (more often than fans ever want to see). But none the less, Ponder is the guy moving forward. Those who want us to somehow get the Next Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, it just isn’t likely. He’s our guy for 2013 (barring injury) so get used to it. For some of us that’s going to be pretty hard.
2. Joe Webb. I will lump Musgrave into this. If Musgrave can’t design (or hell even call) plays where Webb can be effective, than he has to go. If Webb can’t complete a simple pass of 4 yards (see Webb’s first pass of the game at Lambeau and you’ll know what I’m talking about) then he has to go. Either way, something needs to change, and I would prefer both of them change teams.
3. McLeod John Baltazar Bethel-Thompson. I love the name, so I had to type it out. I really like this guy a lot, he showed an incredibly strong arm, and had a lot of confidence in the last pre-season game and I wanted to see some more of him in that playoff loss. He’s the kind of guy who would be nice to develop behind Ponder (most likely as a third stringer, unless Webb sticks around then Webb should be the 3rd/Wildcat guy).
The Vikings really need Ponder to step up, but without a lot of FA options or future rookies who could carry a team, the Vikings will have to go with him and hopefully he steps up. If not, they’ll look to draft someone in April 2014. They may draft a QB in the late rounds 110 days from today. Here’s a picture of Ponder’s arm.

You can never have a young QB without a veteran backup. Of course hindsight is 20-20 but everyone feared losing Webb if we kept Rosenfels. This is what we feared losing?
