UPDATE: Percy has taken to twitter in an attempt to clear things up with his fans. Unfortunately, it has only led to more confusion. He states that he has issues to be worked out but it has nothing to do with the coaches or money. Not sure what else that leaves to be worked out.
An Associated Press report has surfaced that Percy Harvin has officially
asked the Vikings for a trade. We already mentioned Harvin’s desire to get out of his current rookie deal and pay him closer to what he believes he is worth (he is scheduled to make $915,000 this year). He is definitely an asset to this team as one of the great playmakers that we have outside of Adrian Peterson. Peterson was asked about his take on Harvin’s future and this is what he had to say on the matter,
“I’m sure organization will do what it has to do to keep this guy around. If it was me,I would make sure that we kept him around.”
Not exactly controversial. Peterson needs to remain loyal to the team that just gave him a whopping huge contract last year but he also knows what Harvin brings to the team. For the most part, Harvin has taken a funny approach in his desire of a new contract. He has been to almost all the offseason activities even when he had a legitimate excuse to miss them, his surgically repaired shoulder. Most of the time, in situations such as these a player will begin lobbying for a new contract much earlier and start missing all team activities. It remains to be seen if Harvin will be present when mini-camp begins.
On one hand, I easily want to say pay the man. He is a big asset to our offense and a big playmaker at receiver and special teams. On the other hand, the reason Harvin fell so far in the draft the year we got him was he came with a good amount of baggage. We always knew we was a top 10 talent in the draft but he fell for a reason. What do you think should be the Viking’s next step?

I think that the Vikings absolutely need this guy. That being said, Jarius Wright could be very much like him, so it wouldn’t be the end of the world to lose him. But no one is as good a slot receiver as Percy Harvin is.
