The Minnesota Vikings seem to always be fighting off drama ever since the Brett Favre parade pulled into town (Most of us would never wish for that to be undone though because of how close they got to winning it all). Some of the drama can easily be avoided, but some cannot. Evidence by two of arguably the best Vikings players Percy Harvin and Chad Greenway.
Let’s start with Chad Greenway. Greenway has been a solid player and has stayed away from drama (one of the many reasons I like him). But this is one of those unavoidable and sad pieces of news/drama. Greenway’s father is currently battling leukemia, and is on his way to the Mayo Clinic (which can’t be good news), but he has been at home, not a hospice house as was presumed earlier. It’s very understandable that Greenway’s focus may not be on the football field for a while now, although he says he’s glad and excited to get back to work. He’s earned some time away with his behavior and work ethic, and we all wish the best for his father.
Now onto the seemingly avoidable, Percy Harvin. Harvin is entering the second to last year on his rookie deal, and he wants out of it. He’s scheduled to make $915K (more than the MinnesSPORTa team has ever made combined, but I digress), and $1.55 million next year (the last year of his deal). I understand from the Dark Knight that if you do something, and do it will, never do it for free, but Harvin’s timing in this instance is unfortunate for both sides. The Vikings won’t have enough time to give him a solid offer, and he might miss significant time by waiting for the right offer.
The Vikings are in trouble once again, and hopefully they can get all of these things worked out before it ruins another season.
