The Twins and free agent relief pitcher Joel Zumaya have agreed to a one year contract pending a physical, according to MLB.com’s Jason Beck. The deal could be worth anywhere between $800K and $1.7M based on incentives. He had offers from other clubs but signed with the Twins because they were willing to offer a guaranteed major league contract. The 27 year old Zumaya has battled injuries his entire career but when healthy has dominated the competition with his 100mph fastball. He has had 5 surgeries in his career, two on his elbow, two on his shoulder and one on his middle finger. He has not pitched since June 2010 when he fractured his elbow during a game against the Twins at Target Field. It has been reported that he was clocked at 92-94 mph in his december workout for MLB clubs.
