The Twins have had too many injuries to keep track of this season, here is an update on who is on the DL and where the players are in their recovery

Tsuyoshi Nishioka: He has been recovering from a fractured left fibula and has been on the DL since April 8th. He is currently listed on the 60-day DL. If I calculated it correctly that would make him eligible to return on June 7th at the earliest.  He has also been working out and doing infield drills in Fort Myers. He has also been playing in extended spring training games.  He is expected to play in the next extended spring training game Today (May 30th).

Joe Mauer: He has been on the DL since April 13th and is currently listed on the 15-day DL. He has been rehabbing in Fort Myers for a couple weeks now and batting DH in extended spring training games this past week. It is still unclear when he plans to return but they do have an internal target date in mind for his return. He is expected to play in the next extended spring training game Today (May 30th).

Kevin Slowey: He has been on the 15-day DL since May 21st with an abdominal strain. He is eligible to return on June 5th at the earliest. When he returns he will likely be sent to Class AAA Rochester to start a few games.

Glen Perkins: He has been on the 15-day DL since May 22nd after suffering a strained oblique. He is recovering in the Twin Cities and expected to start a throwing program in a couple days.  He would be eligible to return on June 6th at the earliest.

Joe Nathan: He has been on the 15-day DL since May 24th after suffering a right flexor muscle strain.  According to the Star Tribune, the area where Nathan is sore is common for people coming back from the surgery Nathan had this past year. They feel if they let the soreness subside he will come back better and stronger. He would be eligible to return on June 8th at the earliest.

Francisco Liriano: On Sunday he said he felt better after missing his start on Saturday due to shoulder soreness. After the game on Monday however he was placed on the 15 day DL which is expected to be backdated to May 23rd. He will likely miss at least one more start with Anthony Swarzak taking his place in the rotation.

Jim Thome: He had a cortisone shot in his sore left shoulder on Saturday. He still felt sore on Sunday so was unable to play. They hope to have him available at some point in the Detroit series.

Jose Mijares: He was activated from the 15-day DL after Sunday’s game and will be available in the bullpen for the Detroit series.

UPDATE: Jason Kubel sprained his ankle in today’s game. X-Rays were negative and he is day to day.

The players on the Twins roster who were called up to fill the holes for these injuries include: Alex Burnett, Phil Dumatrait, Jim Hoey, Chuck James, Anthony Swarzak, Rene Rivera, and Trevor Plouffe.
